Get Settled - recommendations

To whom it may concern,

As an American expatriate living and working in the Netherlands for a short time, I am often confused about Dutch laws and customs.
As I will be in the Netherlands for several years, I decided to bring my motorcycle over from the States. I knew there is a significant difference in custom duties depending on various things and I knew that my motorcycle would likely not pass Dutch inspection.

Robert met with me at my office and, over coffee, I explained what I wanted to do and gave him the names of the State-side shipper and the NL-side broker. The motorcycle was fully serviced in the States and then was loaded on a ship for Rotterdam.

Robert and I met as needed over the next month. Robert was able to establish that I was bringing over my motorcycle and not 'importing' it. This reduced the duty a lot. Then, with maps and information, he got me ready to pick up the motorcycle from the warehouse in Rijswijk, get it to RDW for inspection and registration in Gouda, and customs for final clearance. He even looked at motorcycle insurance companies and gave me a selected list.Naturally, things went 'wrong' frequently. Robert was able to walk me through each complication, each 'need to have done', and got me across the finish line - on my motorcycle and riding it.

I could have done all this without Robert, but I would certainly not have done it as painlessly or as well as I did with his help. Robert charged me very fairly for his time and his services. No problem on that side at all. And he did it all at my convenience and on my schedule.

Robert gives his business that extra something that makes the experience easy for the customer. For example, my first run on the motorcycle - highway, narrow roads, no idea what was where, and absolutely without a clue about riding in Europe. Robert lead me all the way - staying just ahead and giving me the chance to start becoming familiar with life on the road here.

Kudos to Robert Markus and Get Settled! As single expat having previously lived in The Hague, I was dreading the anticipated hassles of registration and the rest of the bureaucratic headaches.
